I was doing a project recently for a local Christian college and they wanted me to get some shots of their campus. When doing work that involves showing off a lot of interior space, the lens you use really matters. If you don’t believe that’s true, go and check out some local real estate agencies and find one that’s maybe a little older and not up to date technologically. The photos they use to show the house look like you’re moving in a to closet because they used a point and shoot camera that had the wide angle capacity of a toilet paper tube.
For this 365 shot, I put on a wide angle lens (my Tokina 11-16mm) and stepped just inside the rows of books. If you wanted to see what this would look like with some of those camera that don’t go even remotely wide, make a square out of your hands and cover up everything in this picture except the last few sections and that’s what you’d get. The right lens makes all the difference.
