Recently my wife and I had the pleasure of getting away for a little bit with another couple on a cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas. The last time we went on a cruise it was memorable for many reasons, not limited to wonderful photographic opportunities, as well as R&R. This time, however, I wanted to chill a little on the photos and just enjoy myself, so I didn’t end up with as many eye catching photos, but I did end up with one or two as some good memories. Here’s my self-narrated limited photo diary of the trip:
One of the first places we ventured once aboard the ship was, of course, the dining room (truthfully the buffet style cafeteria was closed so we were waiting). If the pictures don’t portray its sense of size, let it be known that it is massive: 3 stories of tables where later on droves of poeple will be gorging themselves on all kinds of food, myself and company included.
I included this picture because all of the people at our table would have sworn, with our lives in the balance, that these flowers were fake. Sure enough, upon closer (much closer) inspection, they were real. They looked imaculate the whole trip.
We finally were able to get into our room after a short wait and once there we began to unpack a little. Nuts had mentioned to me that he’d be coming on our trip, but little did I know that he would beat us there and hide himself in the safe. He jumped out and yelled “Whats the square root of 89,000??!!” and I was so surprised by him and the ridiculous question that I completely froze. He could have taken me down on the spot. And that’s why he’s a secret ninja squirrel and I’m just a simple Marine.
These were tracks left by an iguana that seemed to really like this big, black jagged rock. Maybe he like to sun on it or something. Nonetheless, I thought this low shot on the sand, from his perspective, would provide for an interesting photo. Once again, the awesome G11 macro mode came out shining here.
These clowns were making balloon animals for children, with or without donation, and after the ladies took a snapshot with them, I asked them for a proper portrait and they were happy to oblige. We tossed them a couple of bucks. Nice guys, there were.
Our friends and cruise companions, Amber and Kelly, are, needless to say, very fun to hang out with. So we were goofing around taking pictures inside of the ship’s porthole (which was awkwardly placed right next to the women’s restroom ) when Kelly told Amber to make a face like she was on a Vogue cover, then ‘bam’, there is this awesome expression. One of my favoriate from the whole trip.

What you don’t see here is Nuts doing his “I’m the King of the world!” impersonation. He’s a big Leo fan, though he’d never admit it. He stopped just as I walked up and glared at me.
Nuts enjoys special treatment, but this went a little too far for his tastes. So much for a clandestine vacation.
If you go on vacation and don’t come back with some sun, somethings’ wrong, even when you’re a secret ninja squirrel, although I don’t think he’s ever going to get rid of that tan line.
And with this final picture, we wrapped it all up. This is actually the first time that Sarah and I have enjoyed a decent portrait together. Usually, no matter what I do to set up for the person behind the camera, it never works out. This time we came away happy.
how lovely! I want to go on a fab cruise too.
If you’ve never been on one, you should definitely try it out. One of the best vacation options around.
