One more for the road

Sleeping Student B&WThis is what I’m hoping to be doing for the next two weeks.  No, not studying or sleeping on a table, or even writing.  No, I don’t want to be reading books that have anything to do with school or politics or policy.  No, for the next two weeks I want to relax with family and friends, eat some good food, and do some calm, noncontroversial reading.  Perhaps I’ll keep digging into “Catch-22″ or maybe open up a new photography book I picked up,  The Photographer’s Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos by Michael Freeman.  Regardless, it should be great.

The above picture I took is the one I’m going to be putting on my self designed graduation announcements.  Why not?  It coulnd’t hurt to have a little fun with it.

Something interesting happened when I took this photo, though, that is worth mentioning.  I had it set up and taken the way I wanted in a matter of moments, near correct exposure and all.  It’s really a good feeling to sense progression and development in something you’re working at and that’s what I got from this picture.  It’s not gonna blow anyone away, but anyone to whom I’ve showed the draft invitation laughs and thinks the picture is great and appropriate, which is exactly what I was going for and it took me a short time to get it.

Sarah and I are going to be visiting family until after the new year and my laptop screen isn’t good at producing good color and contrast, so I may not upload any new photos until we get back since I can’t edit them or even see if they came out correct, but there may be an update or two between now and then.  Maybe I can find the right way to tilt the monitor so I can atleast get a couple decent black and white shots up.   We’ll see.

But say a prayer for me as we travel.  The last time we made a trip similar to this we ended up driving through a snow storm.  Hopefully not again.
