Time for something a little more casual: caramel apples

Ok, so, it’s fairly obvious that I’ve been a little busy lately. Well, a lot busy. I’m discovering that the job of keeping a blog is not the easiest of things to do, especially whenever you need to generate your own content (as I try to do). So, then you end up with a bunch of days of nothing, and who wants that? Definitely not all 7 of you my faithful readers!

So, today I figured that, instead of putting up nothing, I’d put up something. Anything. I mean, I’m awake for 16-18 hours of the day, so there certainly must be SOMETHING that is interesting that I can talk about, right?

Actually, no there isn’t. However, I just so happen to have a really cool wife named Sarah who thought it would be a good idea to try and make homemade caramel apples. Now, I thought we were actually going to melt down caramel and dip the things in it or something, but Sarah is smarter than that and just bought us a simple kit.

Here we have Sarah with the caramel sheet that we then use to wrap around the apple. We didn’t get a picture of our failed attempt to successfully wrap the sheets around the apple, but fear not, the picture of the end results leaves plenty of room to point and laugh at us.

But first, realize the immense danger and suspense of creating caramel apples. You see, in order to get all of that caramely goodness to properly wrap around the apples, you have to get the oven to get to an excruciating 200 degrees F. Now, I’m not sure how many of you understand the perils of working with heat that hot (…) but it is literally hot enough to melt the sun. I’m not kidding. Look it up on Wikipedia.

Nonetheless, someone had to get those apples out of there, and one man stepped up to do it. I’ll let the picture speak for itself.

I know. I know. Words are not necessary. However I will take medals and endorsements. I’d prefer Nike. We could do a shoot, video or photo, doesn’t matter to me, where I’m running in front of fire, or better yet…. we could do a video where I’m punching the sun.

Powerful, isn’t it? Back to caramel apples.

Well, after fighting the intense heat and risking my life, this was my reward:

The one on the left is mine. I dunno, but it kind of looks like something a Halloween witch would have, like it’s covered in caramel warts or something. Nonetheless, it was mine and I ate it. Here is Sarah and I enjoying our delicious first ever homemade caramel apples together.

They may not be the prettiest, and the caramel might not have been equally distributed all over the apple, but it was good and we enjoyed it. I’d recommend them for a lazy night snack any day of the week.

So go get yourself a handy dandy kit and make yourself some caramel apples. You won’t regret it. Best served with a loved one (that’s to you, sweetheart).
