Well, here I sit back at work on a nice Monday morning. Just a few short days ago I was piled in my ’95 Celica with my wife and a sputtering A/C. Yeah, we had mildly cool A/C blowing on us the whole… I don’t know, 30-32 hours we were driving. Not fun. Not fun at all.
However, even though the car is 12 years old, it can still take 1700 miles on the road:
On the way back from somewhere near Greenville, SC where we attended a wedding, in the middle of the night we crossed the 200,000 mile threshold. It’s the second time I’ve done it on a car, but only the first where I had my wife with me who happily carries around a point-and-shoot Nikon S200 everywhere she goes. After some rough snapshots using flash, we put it in macro mode and I took the picture while driving. Probably not the safest idea…
Anyways, the trip was fun, but tiring (ever feel like you need a vacation from your vacation?). We were able to do some fun stuff while up there, including going to Kennywood, an amusement park in southwestern PA that is also a national landmark. My wife and I were also able to attend the birthday part of my 2-year old nephew, Trevor. This kid… wow. I don’t know how many times he hit his head, fell off a chair, ran into a wall, tripped, etc. … and rubbed it off and kept doing his thing. Most kids cry when they fall from a chair, he just smiled and started running around. The kids like a tank. The only time he cried was when he was tired.
Here’s the little guy enjoying at his party:
He loves that hat. I don’t think very many people could pull it off, but, c’mon…. the kids adorable.
And this is Trevor enjoying his cake. You gotta watch him. One time when we were there, my sister gave him a grilled cheese sandwich on a paper plate. After he finished the grilled cheese, he started eating the plate (no, really). Funny little guy this kid is.
Kennywood was a lot fun. My wife and I had a good time with the family there. If you’ve never been, if you ever get the chance, head over there. Compared to the parks in Florida, the admission is cheap, and the rides are pretty good. Especially the Phantom’s Revenge. If you love roller coasters, you must ride the Phantom’s Revenge. I’ll put it this way for anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying. Phantom’s Revenge = Awesome. Clear enough?
We then headed south for the wedding of our friend Amanda Paul, which was one of the quirkiest but enjoyable weddings I’ve been too. It was almost completely nontraditional but everything worked. She set up a photobooth for people to take goofy pictures, which my wife and our friend Audra ran, and it gave us the chance to take this very artistic snapshot:
I know, I know. You probably had to sit there for a few minutes and just stare at the artistic and cultural value that this pictures brings to our society. Yes, it is amazing and yes, it is real. Take a few moments and reevaluate your life…
… Better? Ok. Good. Now go change the world you go getter.
